After a whirlwind tour of the USA last week, Pope Francis had some words of wisdom to share with the American people (and for all those tuning into his US visit from all around the world): to keep on dreaming.
He wasn’t talking about those whimsical kind of dreams – also known as ‘daydreams’ – but was speaking of dreams that led to action and created reality.
In an historic address to the US Congress, Pope Francis emphasised the significance of dreams that required true courage and commitment “which awaken what is deepest and truest in the life of a person”.
He spoke about four American dreamers that inspired and continue to inspire people throughout the ages: Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, Dorothy Day and Thomas Merton.
Pope Francis said these dreamers didn’t dream only for themselves and their own advantage but truly had a vision for society and a better life for their brothers and sisters which they fought for tenaciously.
SO… in what ways can we be the kind of dreamers that create change and inspire others to do so too?
