Getting Sun Into Your Life

Spring is upon us and now is the perfect time to do a bit of sun-seeking!

I know that some of us have been told to keep out of the sun for fear of sun burn or – even worse – skin cancer but it’s time to get out and start wandering around in nature again. Sure, take care to be sun safe by using sunscreen, a hat and sunnies, but don’t let that stop you from venturing out and enjoying the sunshine!

We need the sun for good health. There are several studies suggesting that sunlight helps regulate our sleeping cycles and even benefits the health of our heart and blood vessels. And that’s just a couple of the great things the sun does for us.

Without the sun, there would be no life on this planet of ours!

SO… how are you going to get more sun into your life these days?

Here are just a few suggestions to tempt you to get outdoors:

Beach – Sea, sand, waves and the sun! Is there a more obvious way to make the most of the warmer weather than going to the beach? The beauty of the beach has so much to offer and it’s for free! Whether you’re swimming in the ocean or sitting on the golden sand taking in all your surroundings, the beach is a winner for almost everyone who likes to be absolutely soaked in the sun. Whether you want a day loaded with energy, fun and lots of people, or would rather spend your day enjoying the calm of the ocean and that feeling of serenity and solitude, you’d definitely be able to find the perfect beach for you.

Bushwalks – Love the bush, forests and greenery? Then bush walking may be something just right for you. There are tracks and trails for everyone. From beginners to advanced bush walkers, navigating through wooded areas with flowing rivers and streams are just part of the appeal of feeling embraced by nature. Unlike the beach where your vision is set on the horizon, forests turn your gaze upward, and the sight of sun rays softly penetrating through the the treetops is something simply majestic. Ah, and the sound of wind rustling through the trees? So beautiful!

Parks and Gardens – Spring is the time for flowers and if you want to see the vibrance of colour that only natural sunlight can bring out, then you’ll probably be taken by the cultivated beauty of outdoor parks and gardens. Unlike the rugged and natural beauty of beaches and the bush, these spaces are different in that they are purposefully grown and tended by people. Said simply, they are man-made and the combination of natural elements with human ingenuity can be quite breathtaking. Want a place for ideal picnicking, then head to the lawns! Have a basket with goodies and a mat in hand, and you’re ready to go.

City Festivals – It’s usually around spring and summer time that your city and town councils are sure to have outdoor festivals for you to indulge in (and help give local businesses a boost too). If you want more of an urban (or suburban) experience then check out what is happening right around you. From early morning to night, there are so many events to choose from and go to. Feeling peckish? Then look out for the food festivals. Like the arts? Then I’m sure there are outdoor film and art festivals for you to partake in. There are also public cultural festivals, fun runs and fitness events for you to get onboard.
